The Audrey Jessup Short Story Contest


Writer Guidelines

The contest is open to all residents of the National Capital Region and to all members of Capital Crime Writers.

  • Original unpublished fiction
  • Feature a crime
  • Maximum 3500 words
  • In English
  • Typed double-spaced
  • Mailed entries provide 3 copies

The judging process is blind.  Therefore the author’s name must not appear anywhere on the manuscript or they will be disqualified.

Please include the following information in a separate cover letter.

  • Your name
  • Mailing address
  • Email address
  • Telephone number
  • Story title
  • Word count

Only one submission per author.  Deadline for submission is Monday April 2, 2018.


  •  $20.00 entry fee ONLY; or
  • $40.00 if you wish to also receive a written critique.

Payment of the contest entry fees can now be made via the PayPal button at the bottom of the page.


A short list of the top five stories will be released during the announcement of the Arthur Ellis Award finalists in April. The three winning short stories will be revealed in June and winners will be asked to read from their stories. Details to be provided at a later date.
